Pairing Functions, Boolean Evaluation and Binary Decision Diagrams
نویسنده
چکیده
A “pairing function” J associates a unique natural number z to any two natural numbers x,y such that for two “unpairing functions” K and L, the equalities K(J(x,y))=x, L(J(x,y))=y and J(K(z),L(z))=z hold. Using pairing functions on natural number representations of truth tables, we derive an encoding for Binary Decision Diagrams with the unique property that its boolean evaluation faithfully mimics its structural conversion to a a natural number through recursive application of a matching pairing function. We then use this result to derive ranking and unranking functions for BDDs and reduced BDDs. The paper is organized as a self-contained literate Prolog program, available at http://logic.csci.unt.edu/tarau/research/2008/pBDD.zip.

متن کاملDeclarative Combinatorics: Boolean Functions, Circuit Synthesis and BDDs in Haskell
We describe Haskell implementations of interesting combinatorial generation algorithms with focus on boolean functions and logic circuit representations. First, a complete exact combinational logic circuit synthesizer is described as a combination of catamorphisms and anamorphisms. Using pairing and unpairing functions on natural number representations of truth tables, we derive an encoding for...
متن کاملFunction-driven Linearly Independent Expansions of Boolean Functions
The paper presents a family of new expansions of Boolean functions called Function-driven Linearly Independent (fLI) expansions. On the basis of this expansion a new kind of a canonical representation of Boolean functions is constructed: Function-driven Linearly Independent Binary Decision Diagrams (fLIBDDs). They generalize both Function-driven Shannon Binary Decision Diagrams (fShBDDs) and Li...
متن کاملEvaluation Time of Boolean Functions: an Estimation Methodology Based on the Path Length of Their Bdd Representations
In digital systems where Boolean functions are frequently manipulated, it is important to know how evaluation time of Boolean functions is consumed during their execution by the processor. Estimation of the evaluation time of Boolean functions plays an important role in function-architecture co-design. The evaluation time complexity of Boolean functions represented by Binary Decision Diagrams (...
متن کاملBinary Decision Diagrams: A Mathematical Model for the Path-Related Objective Functions
This paper describes a mathematical model for all path length parameters (APL: Average Path Length, LPL: Longest Path Length, and SPL: Shortest Path Length) of Binary Decision Diagrams (BDDs). The proposed model is based on an empirical analysis of randomly generated Boolean functions. The formal core of the developed model is a unique equation for the path-related objective functions over the ...
